Officer Kyle Hayes is a member of the Ocean City Police Department with an extremely big heart.

Ofc. Kyle Hayes recently received a thank you card from a young girl he helped this summer. According to OCPD, the girl and her brother had just been through a tough family issue.  Ofc. Hayes took it upon himself to buy them dinner and give them a tour of the police department. But that’s not all. He then watched TV and hung out with them while they waited for their dad to arrive from out of town, OCPD said.

OCPD posted this photo on their Facebook page telling  Ofc. Hayes he did a job well done!

Q & A With OCPD’s Ofc. Kyle Hayes

1.) What made you want to be a police officer?

I wanted to become a police officer because I wanted to help people and make a difference in people’s lives. I wanted to be the person someone turned to when they had no one else to turn to.

2.) What made you decide to help this young girl and her brother?

As far as helping [girl and brother], there was no real decision, my shift partner and I just acted. He took one part of the incident and I took care of the kids. It felt like the right thing to do, I felt like I was doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons and I did not think twice about it.

3.) How did you feel when you received this thank you card?

When I received the thank you card I had a lot of emotions. This little girl took the time out of her day, months after this incident to make a hand made thank you card. In a time where police are a hot topic in the media and vast majority of the stories are negative ones this girl showed her true character. This kind of appreciation is very humbling and its amazing what two simple words can mean to someone. It very quickly reminded my why I became a police officer. Knowing I made a positive impact in this little girls life there is no better feeling then that.
