There are many burn hazards around a home that can cause serious injury to our loved ones. Tuesday on DelmarvaLife, Dr. Mike Murphy, who specializes in Emergency Medicine at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, told us how we can prevent burns at home. For instance, Dr. Murphy says, a home’s water heater should be set at 120 degrees (no higher.) He says at 140 degrees, within three seconds, a person can suffer a second-degree burn. If a burn does occur, Dr. Murphy says, avoid applying ice to the injury. He says ice can make a burn worse. Instead, use cool or tepid water from a tap or a hose.
