A fire ripped through a family’s home in Hebron, Md. Jan. 18, 2016, leaving the family displaced. Investigators with Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire, which caused an estimated $150,000 in damage, was due to an electrical issue in the dining room.

Donald and Kara Phippin, and their two sons are being helped by family members after a devastating loss.

Local family-owned furniture store in Delmar, Del., Ashley HomeStore, decided it wanted to help as well. Donald, who everyone calls “Donnie,” has been a firefighter for the city of Salisbury since 2003. He also serves as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Hebron. As a gesture of gratitude for his service as a first responder, Ashley HomeStore planned to surprise Donnie and his family with a furniture donation.

The family was presented with a large check noting they will be receiving “The Works,” which includes a 14-piece room package for their living room. The package includes all of the furniture and accents to complete the entire room’s look. They will be able to choose any 14-piece package in the showroom at Ashley HomeStore.

Ashley HomeStore will then deliver and set up the furniture at no charge to the family. Ashley Furniture has a history of helping area first responders with significant furniture donations over the past few years – two of these donations being made to the Salisbury Police Department. Ashley Furniture just wanted to give Donnie and his family this furniture set so that it is one less thing they have to stress and worry about.
